Private Steve Jobs Memorial Set for Oct. 16

Sunday's private service is expected to be attended by the California tech industry's "luminaries and others close to Mr. Jobs," reports the Wall Street Journal. Guests were asked to RSVP to Emerson Collective, the organization founded by Jobs' wife Laurene that works with entrepreneurs to advance domestic and international social reform efforts. The Governor said at the time of Jobs' death that Jobs "was a great California innovator who demonstrated what a totally independent and creative mind can accomplish. Few people have made such a powerful and elegant imprint on our lives." Apple is also holding a celebration of Jobs' life on Oct. 19 at the company's Cupertino, Calif. headquarters. PHOTOS: Apple Products in TV and Movies A week after the tech innovators death, shares in his company rose 3 percent to a historic closing high of $422, giving the iconic technology firm a market capitalization of $391.2 billion. Still the world's most valuable publicly traded company, Apple is worth nearly four times more than Disney and Time Warner combined.
