'Ceremony' stands Off Broadway

"Sitting on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays," an accumulation of short plays about same-sex matrimony, has arranged a wide open-ended run that opens in October in the Minetta Lane Theater. The anthology of 1-functions -- by authors including Neil LaBute, Paul Rudnick, Doug Wright and Moises Kaufman -- preemed last season as a number of benefit occasions in L.A. The Gotham version, created by Joan Stein and Richard Frankel, will have a rotating cast of star thesps inside a reading through-style presentation. Jose Rivera, Jordan Harrison, Wendy MacLeod, Jeffrey Hatcher and Joe Keenan also provide composed vignettes for that evening. Stuart Ross helms the show, that is created by John Shnipper. Producers intend to donate some from the Off Broadway B.O. to marriage equality orgs. The production's rotating cast structure recalls the model for "Love, Loss and Things I Used," the present Off Broadway outing which has created out a long term of nearly 2 yrs having a regularly rejuvenated cast list along with a femme-centric appeal. An early on Off Broadway show about another topical problem, the dying penalty-focused docuplay "The Exonerated," also attracted attention having a similar casting strategy. Initial roster of stars for "Ceremony" remains to become introduced. Production starts previews March. 18 in front of an March. 24 opening. Contact Gordon Cox at gordon.cox@variety.com
